AI on Ubuntu at home

I have a headless Linux box with 32 CPUs, 64 GB RAM, and 1.8 TB of drive space so I am playing around with AI at home using non-GPU setup as my headless Linux doesn't have GPU. Below are the basic steps I used.

Install Ollama

Download and install Ollama via official install script

curl -fsSL https://ollama.com/install.sh | sh

Pull the 7B coding model (lightweight / fast completion)

ollama pull qwen2.5-coder:7b

Pull the 14B coding model (higher precision chat & reasoning)

ollama pull qwen2.5-coder:14b

Bind Ollama to your specific LAN IP Address, mine is 192.168.1.x where x is the last octet. This ensures that Ollama only listens on your LAN IP address

sudo vi /etc/systemd/system/ollama.service.d/override.conf

Insert line into override.conf where x is the last octet:

[Service] Environment="OLLAMA_HOST=192.168.1.x:11434"

Reload and restart

sudo systemctl daemon-reload sudo systemctl restart ollama

Commands to start, stop, disable ollama

Starting ollama

sudo systemctl start ollama

Stopping ollama

sudo systemctl stop ollama

Status of ollama

sudo systemctl status ollama

Disable ollama on start up

sudo systemctl disable ollama

Steam on Linux

Steam Console Client or SteamCMD is a command-line version of the Steam client.

Start SteamCMD

cd ~
steamcmd
